Russian T-90M "Breakthrough" tanks have received new "barbecues" and more advanced additional dynamic protection blocks during the modernization process, according to tank platoon commander Artem Vaganov.
According to him, in previous versions of the T-90, only the sides of the tank were equipped with dynamic protection in soft bags.
However, they did not perform very well in this location, after which they were replaced with metal ones, and the soft blocks themselves were moved to the turret, generally increasing the vehicle's protection.
The first T-90Ms were equipped with several layers of lattice knives and metal mesh, which were complemented by dynamic protection. This provided cover from Javelin anti-tank systems, which attack the upper hemisphere of the vehicle.
However, kamikaze drones are capable of bypassing such structures. Therefore, the T-90M began to be additionally equipped with an enlarged "barbecue", which covers the turret assembly from above.
The Uralvagonzavod concern stated in May that the number of T-90Ms being produced is regularly increasing. The modernized "Breakthrough" is equipped with a modern fire control system, an 1130 hp engine, and "Relikt" dynamic protection.
