Rosatom State Corporation has decided on a site for the construction of a new nuclear power plant (NPP) in Primorsky Krai. This was announced by the head of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev.
The site has been practically chosen. We have to conduct an analysis of the investment scenario, create all the safety justifications, work with the population and enter the site next year.
Nuclear power units with a capacity of 2 GW will be erected in the area of the closed city of Fokino. Currently, the last disagreements on the location of the NPP are being settled, although this site was previously considered as the main option. Three alternative zones were also studied.
Work on the site of the future NPP will begin in 2026. According to the approved schedule, the pouring of the first concrete on the site of power unit No. 1 is scheduled for December 2027.
The Primorsk NPP will consist of two VVER-1000 type power units, the first of which is planned to be commissioned in 2033, and the second in 2035. Rosatom also intends to build another NPP in the Khabarovsk Territory, which emphasizes the active development of nuclear energy in the region.
Earlier www1.ru reported that new NPPs will appear in eight regions of Russia.
