New nuclear power plants are planned to be built in eight regions of Russia. This was announced by the head of Rosatom State Corporation, Alexey Likhachev.
In total, eight new regions will acquire the status of regions owning nuclear energy within the next 15-20 years.
According to the head of the state corporation, it is planned to start creating nuclear capacities in the Khabarovsk Territory in the 2030s. One of the key tasks of Rosatom is also to obtain the first nuclear kilowatt-hours at the Primorskaya NPP by 2032.
Likhachev noted that in order to achieve a share of nuclear energy in the country's energy balance at the level of 25% by 2045, it is necessary to build more than 40 new sources of nuclear generation. Currently, the share of nuclear energy in Russia is 21-22%.
