Chelyabinsk-based company "Fenimore Trans" purchased aircraft engines from former military aircraft in Omsk, reports "SuperOmsk".
According to a source citing the GIS "Torgi" electronic platform, the company acquired 21 AI-25 TL engines manufactured between 1979-1990 at auction for 9.1 million rubles, while the starting price was about 2.43 million rubles.
Fenimore Trans also won the bidding for 37 AL-21 FZT aircraft engines manufactured between 1978-1992 for 11.1 million rubles, although the base price was at 3.7 million rubles.
The exact purpose of the mass purchase is unknown. The company's main activity is the production of ferroalloys; similar materials are used in aircraft engines to increase corrosion resistance and improve the mechanical properties of steel.
Earlier www1.ru reported that five nuclear submarines in Russia will be converted to carry "Caliber," "Zircon," and "Onyx" missiles.
