Russia does not plan to tighten the rules for carrying portable chargers (power banks) in the cabin of aircraft. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Vladimir Poteshkin in an interview with a TASS correspondent on Wednesday.
According to the official, this issue is under review, but no specific tightening of the rules is currently being considered.
This issue is under review. We believe that during the peak season, holidays, etc. [it is important to ensure safety on board], we are working on this issue. But today, such tightening measures are not on the agenda.
Vladimir Poteshkin explained that the Ministry of Transport can only make changes to regulatory acts upon request from authorized bodies, and therefore the issue of possible changes to the rules also concerns the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya).
The Deputy Minister added that when forming policy in this area, the Ministry of Transport takes into account international norms and recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
