Millionth titanium ingot for the construction of MC-21 and SJ-100 was smelted in Russia

Titanium semi-finished products will also be useful in the construction of PD-14 and PD-8 engines

The millionth titanium ingot was smelted at the light alloy production enterprise Verkhnesaldinsky Metallurgical Production Association "Aviation Special Materials" (VSMPO-AVISMA), said Mikhail Shelkov, a shareholder of the corporation.

Assembly of MC-21-310

According to him, 5.2 thousand kg of the highest quality titanium were obtained after eight hours of continuous melting at a temperature of more than 3 thousand degrees. Russian titanium is in every aircraft in the world.

Now there are many difficulties with the supply of titanium to America, to Europe, but when you meet with Airbus or Boeing, someone is forced to abandon some contracts, but everyone has a longing for VSMPO-AVISMA in their eyes. They, without hesitation, say that we have the best quality.

Production Director Oleg Ryabov clarified that titanium is used in the production of the wing, fuselage, chassis and tail of the aircraft. The company also produces titanium semi-finished products for the PD-8 and PD-14 engines of the same aircraft — MC-21 and Superjet 100.
