New methods of military training using AI and VR technologies presented at NSPU

Hostage-taking, assistance to the wounded, and other situations are modeled in augmented reality

Scientists from Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University (NSPU) have developed innovative methods for training military personnel using virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The methods help the military practice team actions in emergency situations.

The basis of the scientists' development was the concept of a collective mental model. Each member of the team understands not only the overall goal, but also the actions of their comrades. NSPU conducted the first study in Russia dedicated to these models, during which specialists studied their structure and the factors influencing their development.

The work of scientists covered 800 military personnel, and 12 training methods were created. They simulate various situations, such as hostage-taking or providing assistance to the wounded, in which participants must quickly make decisions and act effectively. The methods can be applied in various силовых структурах of Russia.

The research was conducted in collaboration with the Novosibirsk Higher Military Command School and the Novosibirsk Military Institute of the National Guard of Russia. Cadets acted as test subjects, and special forces soldiers with combat experience were experts. Scientists noted that in a military team, individual mental models are integrated into a common one, which contributes to the creation of a unified solution.
