The laying down of ships at the new production facilities of Severnaya Verf in St. Petersburg may begin in Q4 2028. The shipyard will switch to building ships using a new technology. This was announced by Andrey Puchkov, General Director of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC).
In order not to interfere with the current production, because production under current orders at the plant will not be stopped all this time. This is not a renovation, it is, in fact, the construction of a new shipyard on the site of the old one. This is a phased process, we plan to start building ships in principle within the framework of a new construction technology at the newly created facilities as early as the end of 2028.
After the launching ceremony of the Admiral Amelko frigate, Puchkov noted that the company will be able to build ships up to 350 by 60 meters in size, including Aframax tankers, gas carriers, container ships, bulk carriers, timber carriers, universal dry cargo ships, rescue, research vessels and fishing fleet.
After modernization, metal processing at the shipyard will increase 15 times to 90 thousand tons per year. This will allow building up to 11 medium- and large-tonnage vessels per year.
The modernization also includes the introduction of large-block assembly of ships, automated cutting and welding lines, modern shot blasting and painting chambers, and the construction of covered slipway positions. This will reduce the construction cycle and increase the technical readiness of ships to 90% at the slipway stage.
The final modernization of Severnaya Verf will be completed by 2030.
