Subscribers in several regions began to talk on the phone a quarter longer

After the restriction of calls in Telegram and WhatsApp on August 11, traffic of some Russian mobile operators increased to 25%, Kommersant reports.

Restrictions on voice calls in messengers triggered an increase in network load. T2 recorded an increase in voice traffic by an average of 9% in Russia, and in some regions - up to 25%.

T-Mobile subscribers spoke 25% more minutes on August 11–12 than a week earlier, said Anton Nikolsky-Volkonsky, Director of Business Development at the operator. The number of voice traffic users increased by 5%.

MTS, MegaFon, VimpelCom, SberMobile and Gazprombank Mobile did not provide data.

TelecomDaily CEO Denis Kuskov estimated the share of subscribers who switched to fixed-line communication due to blocking at 25%. He noted that this is the maximum figure at the moment. According to the expert's forecast, by the end of the month the share of such users may grow to 50%, as many are looking for alternative applications for voice communication.
