Light Indication and Vibration Signal Will Ensure Convenient Passage for Passengers with Disabilities

The Moscow Metro is preparing to introduce new generation turnstiles, which were presented at the "That Very Moscow" exhibition. The devices, which will appear this year, promise to increase the capacity of stations by 40% and improve transport accessibility for people with disabilities.

By 2031, more than 4.5 thousand new generation turnstiles will appear at metro, MCC, and MCD stations. The speed of operation of each will increase due to more modern equipment and the use of new Russian microelectronics made in Zelenograd.
Maxim Liksutov,  Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry

The modernized turnstiles are now equipped with light indication informing about payment and are capable of functioning both for entry and exit. This versatility helps to cope with the large passenger flow at stations and provides a more comfortable passage for people with disabilities. For visually impaired passengers, a tactile prompt is provided in the form of a vibration signal confirming the opening of the passage. The improved contactless payment reading area on the new turnstiles allows various digital payment systems, such as the virtual Troika card, SBP, and biometric data, to be recognized in a matter of seconds.
