Glavgosexpertiza of Russia has approved the development project of the Kovdor Mining and Processing Plant (GOK) in the Murmansk region. The introduction of cyclic-flow technology will increase the complex's productivity to 70 million tons of overburden per year.
The project includes the construction of a crushing and transfer complex, a system of belt conveyors and continuous dump formation. The crushing complex will process 10 thousand tons of rock per hour. Four main conveyors with a length of 250 to 458 meters will ensure transportation.
The project provides for the reconstruction of the transport scheme of the "Zhelezny" quarry. Along with road transport, cyclic-flow technology will be used to deliver overburden to the dump. This will allow deepening the quarry, as well as increasing production in it.
Currently, Kovdorsky GOK extracts iron ore by open-pit mining. The new system will raise overburden to a height of 340 meters, while it will be possible to deepen the quarry to 620 meters.
