Iz-27 "Verticals" Transferred to the Military to Combat Drones: Two Shots Are Enough

Smooth-bore guns with a vertical barrel arrangement outperform self-loading guns in terms of power

The Russian military has been supplied with Iz-27 smooth-bore guns with a vertical barrel arrangement, manufactured by the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant (IMZ, part of the Kalashnikov Concern of Rostec), to combat kamikaze drones.

The company recalled that the IZH-27 smooth-bore hunting rifle went into series production in 1973, was produced for over forty years, and became the most mass-produced in the country — over 1.5 million rifles of all modifications were manufactured.

The most popular caliber for it is 12×76 (for a barrel diameter of 18.4 mm), there are also 20th caliber (also for a 76 mm cartridge) and 16th caliber (for a 70 mm cartridge).

Due to the fact that the IZH-27 has no moving parts, the receiver is significantly shorter than that of self-loading models, such as the MP-155.

Also, the vertical gun outperforms self-loading guns in terms of power, as it does not expend energy on the operation of the automatics, but it is inferior in rate of fire. However, according to experienced "drone fighters", two shots are enough for a good shooter to shoot down a flying FPV drone.
