Russia's naval strategic nuclear forces (designed for nuclear deterrence and nuclear missile strikes) will be reinforced in the coming years with 4 submarines of the 955A "Borei-A" type. This was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting dedicated to the development of the Russian Navy's submarine forces.
Two of them are under construction. These strategic submarines of the latest generation are armed with "Bulava" ballistic missiles, as well as other modern weapons.
According to the head of state, the construction of underwater strategic missile carriers is a priority for the country, as it ensures a balance of power. Submarines that can carry missiles with nuclear warheads are an important component of the nuclear triad. It is also necessary to continue the serial production of "Yasen-M" project submarines, Putin added.
The President noted that the future of the Russian Navy is determined by promising developments. These include multifunctional robotic complexes.
It is obvious that it is this weapon that will largely determine the future of the Navy.
Domestic engineers must ensure the primacy of the Russian Federation in this area, Putin concluded.
