The number of LNG-powered vessels in Russia may increase to 107 by 2035

Filling stations are planned to be built in St. Petersburg, Murmansk, Arkhangelsk and other key ports

Russian gas-powered vessels (using gas engine fuel, mainly liquefied natural gas) will be able to make voyages from Murmansk to Vladivostok in the next 10 years. This is stated in the draft Concept for the Development of the Gas Engine Fuel Market until 2035.

The document states that it is necessary to ensure bunkering of LNG-powered vessels for unimpeded passage along the Northern Sea Route. For this purpose, it is possible to create a network of filling stations in key ports (Ust-Luga, St. Petersburg, Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Vladivostok, Vostochny, Astrakhan and Makhachkala), build bunker vessels for the Arctic, and increase the LNG fleet for inland waterways.

Currently, there are only 15 LNG-powered vessels in operation in Russia. According to the concept, their number may increase to 107 units by 2035.

In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia will study the issue of creating ship repair bases for the maintenance and repair of LNG vessels. The agency will also consider measures to organize the construction of dry and floating docks with a lifting capacity of up to 80 thousand tons.
