Under-construction nuclear icebreaker "Leningrad" to receive new electrical equipment

TRSZP-6000/10-ОМ4 transformers inspected by specialists from the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping

Three-phase dry-type power transformers type ТРСЗП-6000/10-ОМ4 manufactured by "Elektrofizika" have been approved by specialists from the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (РС). Twelve units of electrical equipment will be installed on the nuclear icebreaker "Leningrad" of Project 22220.

The transformers are part of the ship's electric propulsion system and provide power to the powerful propulsion electric motors needed for effective operation in the Arctic.

The marine modification of the equipment is resistant to vibration and aggressive environmental influences. A special feature of these transformers is the dry-type design, which ensures reliability and safety of operation.

Characteristics of ТРСЗП-6000/10-ОМ4:

  • power — 6000 kVA
  • voltage — 10.5 kV

The icebreaker "Leningrad" was laid down in January 2024 at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg. The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin took part in the ceremony. Vessels of Project 22220 are being created to replace Soviet nuclear-powered ships. The new icebreakers will operate along the Northern Sea Route.
