"Rostelecom" is discussing the development of its own online video game store, according to sources at "Kommersant". Experts predict that the platform will be designed for devices running on the "Aurora" OS, including the company's tablets.
The main emphasis will be on projects from Russian studios that are adapted for the Russian operating system developed by "Open Mobile Platform" (OMP). It is planned that the store may be integrated into the FPlus game console, presented at "CIPR 2025". However, experts express doubts about the success of the project. One of the main problems is the limited support for modern graphics engines in "Aurora". Previous attempts by "Rostelecom" to enter the gaming market, such as "Gaming Market" (2019), did not gain wide acceptance.
In essence, "Rostelecom" is developing an analogue of VK Play, but it is still far from the VK product. At a minimum, the "Aurora" OS lacks the graphics engines to develop full-fledged modern releases.
Previously, international platforms, including Steam, PlayStation Store, and Nintendo eShop, restricted payments from Russian cards. The Ministry of Digital Development believes that the country has the potential for the development of the gaming industry:
I believe that we have very good potential for computer games.
FPlus confirmed negotiations with the developers of "Aurora", but market participants note that without a large assortment, the store may face the same difficulties as other Russian platforms, forced to compete with global services.
