New variable speed roller table with industrial interfaces optimizes cargo flows in production facilities and warehouses

Specialists from the SKB-2 design bureau of the Kingisepp Machine-Building Plant (KMZ) have completed the development of a new rotary drive platform (roller table) design, intended for integration into automated cargo handling systems. The device is designed to be a key element in improving the efficiency of in-plant and warehouse logistics.

Drive rotary platform developed by SKB-2 KMZ

The main function of the platform is to change the direction of cargo movement without stopping the main conveyor flow. This is achieved by means of a rotating section driven by an electric motor. Torque is transmitted to the rollers via either a chain or belt drive. The engineers have provided for the possibility of using a geared motor with speed control, which is critical for working with different types of cargo - from heavy pallets to fragile boxes of medicines or food products.

The most important aspect of the development is the control system. The platform is designed to operate as part of complex automation systems. It supports connection to external controllers via standard industrial communication protocols such as Modbus and Profibus. This ensures easy integration into existing production lines with minimal infrastructure modifications.

The introduction of such rotary units makes it possible to build complex, branched transport routes, increasing the overall flexibility of the system. This directly affects the reduction of labor costs associated with manual maneuvering or reloading, minimizes the risk of damage to both cargo and equipment when working with heavy or bulky items, and ultimately increases the overall productivity of logistics chains. Areas of application range from sorting centers and the docking of various technological sections to the organization of the movement of specific cargoes requiring special transportation conditions.
