Multi-million project scrapped: e-Neva electric vehicle production frozen

Almaz-Antey Holding to focus on more priority tasks

Despite significant investments, the Russian electric car project "Neva" has been put on hold. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov.

Production was scheduled to begin in 2026. But Almaz-Antey Holding, which was developing the "Neva", will focus on other tasks.

We have now put it on hold, referring to the priority of the main tasks that Almaz-Antey is currently engaged in, so it is on hold.
Denis Maturov, Russian Deputy Prime Minister

The "Neva" was intended to become not just a separate model, but an entire brand. There were plans to produce a crossover, a delivery van, and a car with a hybrid powertrain. In reality, the work was limited to just the crossover.

Development began at the Obukhov plant in 2019. Two years later, the first prototype of the car was presented. The declared power was 435 hp, acceleration to 100 km/h was from 3 to 4 seconds, and the range exceeded 450 km.

The cost of the car was supposed to be 4 million rubles, and the development of its concept cost 70 million rubles. However, the exact cost figures remain hidden, and one can only guess at the full amount.

The Obukhov plant, where the electric car was being developed, is engaged in the production of anti-aircraft systems and has no experience in the production of passenger cars. It was planned that the "Neva" would be produced at the former Toyota site in Shushary, but instead, the production of premium Aurus cars will be established there.
