Will Increase 5G Internet Speed: NOMA Technology Being Developed at RTU MIREA

The development allows to increase the average signal-to-noise ratio by 10 dB

Russian Technological University (RTU MIREA) has developed an innovative NOMA technology. It will improve the speed of mobile Internet in 5G networks, the university's press service reported.

Traditional mobile networks use orthogonal signals. This limits the number of users who can connect to the network simultaneously. However, with the increase in the number of devices and the need for high-speed data transmission, this approach becomes less effective.

NOMA uses a signal power distribution strategy depending on the distance between the user and the base station. The farther the user is, the more powerful the signal that is sent to him. This compensates for signal loss over long distances and maintains stable communication quality. In addition, the technology includes a successive interference cancellation (SIC) method, which helps to reduce the level of interference and improve the signal-to-interference ratio.

NOMA technology makes it possible to abandon the orthogonality of signals. This increases the number of users using the same resources and increases the spectral efficiency of the network.

During the simulation, RTU MIREA scientists compared systems using NOMA technology and without it. The results showed that the use of NOMA under certain conditions can increase the average signal-to-noise ratio by 10 dB. This provides users with a more stable and high-quality signal even under high network load.

The development of RTU MIREA has great potential for improving the quality of mobile communications in the face of a growing number of connected devices. With the introduction of NOMA technology, users will be able to enjoy higher data rates, a stable connection and lower latency, which is especially important for applications such as video conferencing, online games and streaming.

Earlier www1.ru reported that 5G communication will appear in five Russian cities with a population of over one million already in 2026.
