The United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) has shown footage of the first domestic underwater missile carrier. The vessel was built in 1834 according to the project of Adjutant General Karl Schilder at the Alexandrovsky Foundry (Proletarsky Plant USC).
On June 7, 1838, the first launch of missiles from an underwater position from the board of the first domestic all-metal submarine took place in the history of the country. To submerge the submarine to a given depth, a tank in the hold was provided, filled with water through two taps.
When the boat surfaced, the water was pumped out by hand pumps. The boat was propelled by four oars, which, in turn, were set in motion by muscle power. To view the sea surface, there was an optical tube in the rear tower of the boat, a prototype of the periscope.
The submarine's armament consisted of a mine and rockets. The mine, which was a vessel with 16 kg of gunpowder, was attached to a harpoon tip, which pierced the enemy's ship, and after the departure, it remained inside the pierced ship and exploded.
Today, the unique submarine remains only in drawings. After the completion of the experiments, Karl Schilder disassembled it and sold it for scrap.
Earlier www1.ru reported that "Uralvagonzavod" announced an all-Russian vote for a new name for the BMPT "Terminator".
