The Russian shipbuilding industry is preparing for a large-scale transformation: the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) has developed a new production system (PSRS) aimed at improving operational efficiency through the introduction of digital technologies, standardization of processes, and development of human resources.
The strategy, presented at the Baltic Shipyard, includes five key areas: production management, efficiency improvement, personnel development, project management, and optimization of support processes. Special attention is paid to digitalization: the introduction of automated project management systems, a platform for sharing best practices, and new methods of ship design based on modularity and standardization.
The presented PSRS development strategy demonstrates a comprehensive approach to modernizing Russian shipbuilding through the integration of modern management practices, digitalization of production, and development of human capital. The phased implementation of all areas of system development using the methodology of comprehensive programs for the technical and economic development of enterprises will ensure a sustainable increase in the operational efficiency of the industry. USC is ready to openly share the developments obtained during the development of PSRS with colleagues, which will undoubtedly contribute to achieving the goals of the updated Strategy for the Development of the Shipbuilding Industry of Russia.
The process of change is based on two existing mechanisms: a quality management system and a lean manufacturing management system. The quality management system has been implemented in all companies of the USC Group and meets the requirements of GOST R ISO 9001. However, it is necessary to improve the quality and completeness of documentation, as well as cover all aspects of management. The lean manufacturing system is a set of tools for identifying losses and improving the efficiency of production processes in the companies of the USC Group.
In the course of the work, the company's specialists identified five main vectors for the development of the Production System in the field of shipbuilding in Russia:
- Production and equipment management: improving planning, dispatching, design and technological preparation, transition to modularity and standardization, improving equipment efficiency. Development of 9 methodological documents.
- Efficiency and improvement management: increasing labor productivity, expanding the PS methodology to management, linking goal-setting with improvements, developing KPTER, implementing a knowledge management system and a platform for sharing practices. Development of 17 methodological documents.
- Development of human potential: strengthening the HR brand, increasing engagement, increasing appointments from the talent pool, reducing the number of vacancies. Development of 7 methodological documents.
- Project management: unification of project management (planning, cost, timing, resources, quality), improved control, monitoring, KPI development, process automation. Development of 12 methodological documents.
- Management of supporting processes: improving the efficiency of processes to support production, reducing bureaucracy. Implementation of 20 practical initiatives.
The new system should increase the competitiveness of Russian shipyards by reducing costs and speeding up ship construction. USC is ready to share its developments with other enterprises.
