New VK-1600 helicopter aircraft engine to get an aircraft version for An-2 replacement

The degree of unification of VK-1600V with VK-1600S is about 60-65%

The new Russian-developed helicopter engine VK-1600V will receive a VK-1600S version for installation on aircraft. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has placed a contract for the development of the "VK-1600S engine in the 1100-1450 hp power class," with the United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec) as the contractor.

The department clarified that the key components of the VK-1600V helicopter engine can be used in the development of the VK-1600S aircraft version for the LMS-901 Baikal. The degree of unification of the VK-1600V with the VK-1600S will be 60-65%.

These indicators will allow, by using the groundwork on the helicopter engine, to create a new VK-1600S in a short time until the end of 2027.

Work on the VK-1600V engine began in Russia in 2019. The power plant is being created for the prospective Ka-62 multi-purpose helicopter. Currently, there are no domestic engines of this size in the country.

Earlier www1.ru reported that unique saberlets were developed for the wing of the SJ-100 Superjet: they reduced the speed during landing approach.
