Footage of the Russian "Dan-M" drone being deployed from a Mi-8 helicopter has appeared online. The video shows the helicopter acting as a "drone mother ship."
Instead of the usual unguided rockets for the Mi-8's arsenal, the aircraft was equipped with "Dan-M" drones. After ascending to a certain altitude, the helicopter crew launches the drone, after which it embarks on an independent flight.
Using helicopters as drone carriers allows for a significant flight range while maintaining a relatively low cost of operation compared to launching from jet aircraft.
Characteristics of the "Dan-M" in the flying target version:
- Flight altitude — from 50 to 9000 m
- Speed — from 300 to 750 km/h
- Flight duration — up to 70 min
- Take-off weight — 350 kg
