"Russian Railways" (RZD) has welded rails for the construction of the high-speed railway (HSR) Moscow - St. Petersburg, the company's press service reported.
The work was carried out on the experimental ring of VNIIZhT.
A track rail welding self-propelled machine fastened the rails by contact method, and a team of repairmen - by thermite using a special mixture and a crucible. Simultaneously with welding, specialists used a special paint to determine the temperature in different zones of the joint. This is important for understanding the properties of the metal after fastening.
Specialists dismantled rail samples created in October last year. They will be sent to the laboratory to study static strength and conduct metallographic analysis of welded joints.
Earlier www1.ru reported that RZD may launch unmanned trains on the HSR Moscow — St. Petersburg.
