Russian President Vladimir Putin made a working trip to the Kursk region on May 20, where he held a series of meetings and visited key infrastructure facilities in the region. The head of state focused on Kursk NPP-2, one of the most significant construction projects in the energy sector.
In the city of Kurchatov, the President inspected the construction site of the new generation Kursk nuclear power plant, which should replace the existing Kursk NPP. During the visit, Putin was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin, who oversees the construction and development of infrastructure.
The Kursk NPP-2 project is being implemented on the basis of generation "3+" power units with VVER-TOI reactors, designed to improve safety and economy. The station will be the first in Russia to use such installations. The launch of the first unit is expected in the coming years, the second will follow.
