The Russian Mi-171A3 helicopter is equipped with modern VK-2500PS-03 engines, developed and manufactured by the St. Petersburg-based company UEC-Klimov (part of the United Engine Corporation). UEC spoke about the main advantages of the power unit for rotorcraft.
Power plants automatically adapt to any environmental changes using an automatic regulation and control system.
ВК-2500ПС-03 is capable of operating in any geographical location — on land, at sea, in the tropics and in severe frost, when exposed to sea fog and sea water.
When developing the engine, the designers took into account all possible operating conditions, therefore, the design solutions, applied coatings and materials significantly improve performance.
For example, modern engine blade materials prevent corrosion. Also, the coating reliably operates at temperatures from -50 ºС to +60 ºС, and reliable engine start-up has been confirmed at altitudes up to 6000 m.
Earlier www1.ru reported that work on the Baikal aircraft has reached a dead end: it will never see the light of day.
