Moscow goes Wi-Fi: Connections to networks almost doubled due to communication restrictions amid Victory Day parade

A surge in demand for public Wi-Fi networks is recorded — especially in cafes and gyms

The number of connections to public Wi-Fi in Moscow has increased sharply amid temporary restrictions on mobile communications due to preparations for the Victory Day parade.

According to the company, the total number of connections increased by 92%. A particularly noticeable increase was recorded in coffee shops — by 238%, in fitness clubs — by 199%, and in restaurants — by 192%.

The structure of authorization methods has also changed: users more often chose alternative login options. The number of connections through the "Gosuslugi" portal increased 10 times, through a voice call — three times, and the use of SMS codes doubled.

The situation demonstrated the importance of sustainable access to Wi-Fi in public spaces. According to him, this may become an additional advantage for urban businesses.
