The Russian government has approved new rules for protecting transport infrastructure facilities from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). These facilities include marine terminals, ports, airports, railway stations, and bus stations, especially those that handle dangerous goods.
Transport infrastructure entities will be required to define the boundaries of security zones based on a vulnerability assessment. Observation posts for air, land, and water environments, as well as UAV countermeasure posts, will be established within these zones. Facilities must be equipped with special technical means to combat drones.
In addition, interaction with the military will be organized to address air defense tasks. Infrastructure entities are obligated to conduct drills on threat alerts and security measures at least once a year.
Previously, the Ministry of Transport had already taken steps to protect facilities from UAVs by granting transport security personnel the right to suppress drone activities. A procedure for making decisions on such actions and a list of authorized officials have been approved.
Special technical means for detecting and countering UAVs do not require lengthy certification procedures. However, only those means that are supplied to the Armed Forces of Russia or recommended by the Ministry of Defense can be used to suppress drone control signals.
