China Turns Russian "Halibut" Submarine into Museum: Not a Red Line, but a "Black Hole"

Submarine of Project 887, code "Halibut", has been converted into a Youth Education Center

Footage has emerged of the B-185 diesel-electric submarine of Project 877EKM, code "Halibut", transferred by Russia to the Navy of China in 1994. Currently, the submarine base has been opened as a Youth Education Center.

The submarine was laid down in March 1989 at the Sormovo plant. In 1994, a decision was made to sell the submarine to China. The ship was renamed Yuan Zhend 64 Nao with the hull number 364. Presumably, the submarine was in service with the Chinese Navy until 2017.

Diesel-electric submarines of Project 877, code "Halibut", are the quietest Russian submarines due to their streamlined shape and special hydroacoustic coating of the hull. In the West, this class of submarines is called the "Black Hole" for its high stealth.
