The installation of 150 units of equipment for Russia's first gigafactory for the production of lithium-ion energy storage devices is underway at the site in the city of Neman.
The project, implemented by the fuel division of Rosatom, envisages 90% automation of processes, which will ensure the production of one battery cell every second. The launch of pilot production is scheduled for the end of 2025, and mass production will start in 2026.
The design capacity of the enterprise will be 4 GWh per year, which is enough to equip 50,000 electric vehicles. Production lines will stretch for 2.5 km, and the total length of cable routes will exceed 500,000 km. The height of the main building will reach 36 meters. Currently, 80% of construction work has been completed, including the preparation of infrastructure for the installation of high-precision equipment.
By 2025, the number of employees of the enterprise will increase to 1,500 people. More than 100 specialists are already working on the project: technologists, adjusters and experts in the field of energy and logistics. The gigafactory will become a key element of the regional pilot project on electric mobility, complementing the capacity of the Avtotor plant, where cars are produced.
Localization of supply chains will reduce logistics costs and increase the competitiveness of domestic products.
