The head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Bakanov, announced the launch of a GLONASS system station in May-June 2025. The facility will be built in Venezuela, which will positively affect the development of Russian navigation services in Latin America.
Ground-based correction stations like GLONASS act as "helpers" to satellites. They refine coordinates and make navigation more accurate. Without such stations, the accuracy of determining location could be worse.
Most likely, in May or June, we will open another additional one in Venezuela
To ensure that GLONASS consumers are satisfied with the quality of the product, Roscosmos will actively interact with the countries of the region. This means that Russian navigation technologies will become more accessible to residents of Latin America.
Professor Giovanni Borges of the University of Brasilia noted the importance of cooperation with Russia. Access to data from Russian stations allows Brazil to participate in a common measurement system. This indicates that the development of GLONASS is keeping pace with international scientific research.
Expanding the network of ground stations will improve navigation accuracy not only in Venezuela but also in neighboring countries. This is especially important for maritime navigation, agriculture, and emergency response systems.
