25 Times Cheaper Than Anti-Aircraft Missiles: Newest Small-Sized UAV Interceptor Developed in Russia

The novelty is designed to counter unmanned strike systems on the battlefield

The Fakel Machine-Building Design Bureau has developed a small-sized UAV interceptor. The product is designed to intercept hovering and low-speed unmanned aerial vehicles of the "mini" class, strike weapons of the "kamikaze drone" type, adjust artillery fire, and counter unmanned reconnaissance systems on the battlefield.

Small-sized UAV interceptor

The UAV interceptor has a significant advantage over anti-aircraft guided missiles (SAMs) - the cheapness of production. In addition, SAMs are limited in use due to the high cost of drone flights in the near border of the affected area.

Key Objectives of the UAV Interceptor Development Program:

Achieving ease of manufacture and operation through the use of components and parts of serial quadcopters, simplifying the design compared to existing anti-aircraft guided missiles and rocket engines;

Reducing the weight of the interceptor compared to known short-range missiles such as 9M33, 9M311, 9M330, 9M331, 9M333, 9M335, 9M336, 9M338, 9M340;

Reducing the cost of the UAV compared to known short-range missiles such as 9M33, 9M311, 9M330, 9M331, 9M333, 9M335, 9M336, 9M338, 9M340 by 20-25 times with a proportional increase in serial capability;

Possibility of using the UAV interceptor as part of a man-portable air defense system.
