The Atomic Energy Club is Growing: Rosatom Plans to Build Five New NPPs

New stations are planned to be built in Kyrgyzstan, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and one European country

"Rosatom" plans to build five NPPs. This was announced by the head of the state corporation, Alexey Likhachev.

Project of Ninh Thuan-1 NPP (Vietnam)
Many countries want to join the atomic energy club, we are ready to work with everyone, and negotiations are underway with probably about two dozen countries. This is Kazakhstan, this is Uzbekistan, this is Kyrgyzstan, this is Vietnam, and I very much hope that one more will be from the European countries.
Alexey Likhachev, Head of Rosatom State Corporation

In Uzbekistan, it is planned to build a small NPP, and the project is expected to start in approximately three years. Kazakhstan is currently selecting contractors for the construction of a large NPP. The shortlist of potential suppliers of reactor technologies includes not only Rosatom, but also the Korean company KHNP, the French EDF, and the Chinese CNNC. Intergovernmental agreements and contracts will be concluded in November of this year.

As for Kyrgyzstan, last week Rosatom submitted a preliminary feasibility study (pre-feasibility study) to the country's Ministry of Energy for a project to build a small-capacity nuclear power plant.

The state corporation is also ready to offer the construction of two VVER-1200 units in Vietnam. Likhachev previously explained that the country decided to return to the Ninh Thuan-1 NPP project, which was suspended in 2016. In January, Rosatom Energy Projects and the Electricity Corporation of Vietnam signed a memorandum of understanding to develop cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that Rosatom may decommission the BN-350 sodium-cooled reactor at MAEK in Kazakhstan.
