The Great Wall Motors (GWM) concern intends to start assembling robotic gearboxes for Haval cars at its plant in the Tula region. This was announced by the governor of the region, Dmitry Milyaev, after meeting with the founder of the company, Wei Jianjun, at the Shanghai Auto Show.
The technological basis for the new transmissions will be the developments of Gerhard Henning, a former Volkswagen and Daimler engineer who participated in the creation of the famous DSG. It is expected that Russia will produce 7-speed preselective gearboxes with "wet" clutches, which are already used in the Haval model range. Depending on the modification, these may be versions 7DCT450 or the more modern 7DCT300S.
Currently, the GWM plant in Tula has already established the production of turbocharged engines with a volume of 1.5 and 2.0 liters. Localization of transmissions will be an important step in fulfilling the terms of the special investment contract signed in 2020. According to regional authorities, by 2025 the production of Haval cars in the Tula region will reach 121 thousand units.
Localization of the production of Haval gearboxes may increase the availability of Chinese crossovers in Russia, reducing their final cost. In addition, this will strengthen GWM's position as one of the key players in the Russian automotive market.
