Helping Themis: Citizens Should Have the Right to Choose Who Decides Their Fate in Court — Artificial Intelligence or a Human

Deputy Nechaev: "66% of Respondents Are Against the Introduction of AI in Courts"

The leader of the "New People" party, Alexey Nechaev, has proposed an important initiative: to legally establish the right of Russian citizens to decide who will make decisions on their cases — artificial intelligence or a human.

In his Telegram channel, Alexey Nechaev emphasized that "it would be right to enshrine the right of choice at the legislative level." The position of the "New People" party is that citizens should have the opportunity to choose how to interact with technologies in various fields, including education, medicine, and justice, and this right should be guaranteed.

For example, 66% of respondents are against the introduction of AI in courts. People want their case to be examined by a living person, not a soulless neural network. But this does not mean that we should dismiss neural networks here. When the proportion of acquittals in the country is less than one percent, it is still unclear who will be more objective and humane. Therefore, we believe that AI can be introduced, but carefully. The main thing is to give people a choice of who will judge them: a human or a neural network.

In recent years, the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine, education, and justice has been discussed on the Internet. Systems are emerging that help diagnose diseases, automate judicial processes, and use AI in educational platforms. There is also an opinion that it is important to regulate the use of AI and consider ethical issues to avoid problems such as algorithm bias and the protection of personal data. These issues are becoming increasingly important with the development of technology.

Earlier www1 wrote that the State Duma is discussing the draft law "On Regulation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Systems in Russia", which provides for a ban on systems with an "unacceptable level of risk" and the introduction of liability for developers for harm caused by neural networks.
