Specialists from Rosatom have begun developing a technology for producing beryllium-containing materials. As part of this project, the NII NPO LUCH will host the first experimental site in Russia for developing production processes — from ore concentrate to finished metal.
It is expected that the processing volume will be up to 300 kg of beryllium per year.
Beryllium is a rare metal. It is mainly used as an alloying additive to various alloys, which significantly increases their hardness and strength, and the corrosion resistance of product surfaces.
Beryllium-containing materials are widely used in various industries (X-ray technology, nuclear reactors, laser, aerospace technology, acoustic systems). The importance of these materials is increasing in connection with the implementation of the project to create a research molten salt reactor, which requires a significant amount of beryllium-containing components.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Rosatom will proceed with the implementation of new projects in the Tver region.
