Вечер пятницы подарит шанс увидеть полярные сияния: магнитная буря G1 наблюдается на Земле

Auroras are expected in the European part of Russia

A G1-level geomagnetic storm is currently occurring on Earth, and auroras are expected. This is reported on the website of the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the IKI RAN and ISZF SB RAS.

This is a weak geomagnetic storm caused by the impact of the solar wind on the planet's magnetic field. The wind is moving at a speed of about 500 km/s, which is not enough for strong storms, but a slight increase in activity is possible, up to the G2.0 level.

Due to this magnetic storm, weak auroras are already being observed in some northern regions of Russia. However, to see them in cities such as St. Petersburg or Moscow, you need to wait, as conditions for this are unlikely in the near future. Despite this, there is a chance of intensification of phenomena until 22:00-23:00 Moscow time.
