Ministry of Transport to Launch New Fee for Airport Upgrades

The Ministry of Transport of Russia proposes introducing a new infrastructure fee for airlines starting September 1. It will be directed towards the reconstruction of airports. This information was published on the official portal of normative legal acts, as noted by journalists.

The ministry believes that the funds received from air carriers will help accelerate the process of airport renovation. The fee will apply to both Russian and foreign airlines. Sheremetyevo Airport is cited as an example, where a similar model is already in use.

Funding will be carried out within the framework of the federal project "Development of the опорной network of airfields." 366 billion rubles have been allocated from the state budget for its implementation, as well as about 128 billion rubles of private investment under a concession scheme.

The main attention will be paid to improving flight safety and improving the quality of service at airports. Control over the size of the fee and the distribution of funds will be carried out by state bodies. The fee is planned to be introduced in airports that are part of holdings.

According to industry experts, the new fee will affect the cost of air tickets. Air carriers will be forced to raise prices due to the introduction of new deductions.
