Fraudsters create a unified network of smart devices infected with malware

Cybercriminals have found a way to attack owners of "smart" toothbrushes. They have learned to hack "smart home" systems to create botnets — networks of infected devices — and use them for cryptocurrency mining and user surveillance.

Attackers combine household appliances into a single system infected with malware. This infrastructure is used to conduct DDoS attacks, create digital currencies, and gain unauthorized access to video surveillance systems.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs draws attention to the fact that hacking can have more dangerous motives. For example, attackers can use information obtained from "smart" toothbrushes and temperature sensors to determine if anyone is home. This could be preparation for a robbery.

In connection with the discovered danger, the department strongly advises citizens to carefully choose the central "smart home" system, giving preference to products from well-known manufacturers.

When installing new devices, it is necessary to pay special attention to creating reliable and unique passwords. Experts also recommend changing the standard name of the Wi-Fi network and regularly checking for software updates for all connected devices in order to quickly eliminate possible problems.

Earlier, www1.ru warned that scammers had come up with another way to deceive gullible residents of Russia. They offer to buy mobile tariffs at a discount, but you need to pay for two months in advance.
