Muscovites will be able to see the Northern Lights on the night of March 24

If the magnetic storm drags on, on the night of March 24, the sky over Moscow may be painted in bright colors

On the night of March 24, polar auroras may appear in the sky over Moscow after the strongest magnetic storm of level G3. This was announced by Professor of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Sergei Bogachev.

So far, the forecast for the appearance of auroras is rather negative, but if the storm lasts until Sunday evening, the possibility of observing this phenomenon in the capital region remains.

On the night of Saturday, when the geomagnetic situation only began to worsen, there were reports of auroras at latitudes of 53–55 degrees, which corresponds to the latitude of Moscow.

Since March 21, weak storms have been recorded, and since March 22, they have reached level G1. According to the forecast, the peak of magnetic activity will occur on the morning of March 23.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Russians observed the Northern Lights at night due to a powerful geomagnetic storm.
