Russia's submarine forces are developing, with the latest 885 Yasen-M project submarines with hypersonic Zircon missile systems entering service, according to Defense Minister Andrei Belousov.

The Minister congratulated naval submariners on their professional holiday, which is celebrated on March 19.

Zircon is the world's first ship-based hypersonic cruise missile, its flight speed reaches 9 times the speed of sound, and it hits a target at a distance of more than 1000 km. In addition to equipping the 885M Yasen-M submarines with Zircons, the modernized 949A Antey project submarines, project 22350 frigates, and the Admiral Nakhimov missile cruiser, which is undergoing modernization, are also armed with them.

The 885 Yasen project submarines are a series of domestic fourth-generation multi-purpose submarines. The lead ship of the project, the nuclear submarine Severodvinsk, entered the fleet in 2014.
