Revolutionary Method for Processing Gas Turbine Aircraft Engine Blades Developed at PNRPU

Reliability and durability of power unit parts will significantly increase

Scientists from Perm Polytechnic University (PNRPU), together with engineers from "ODK-Perm Engines," have proposed new approaches to processing gas turbine aircraft engine blades, which will help increase their reliability and durability.

Specialists conducted a series of experiments to determine how various surface preparation methods affect the quality of the protective coating. They compared three processing methods: hydroabrasive, sandblasting, and polishing.

The best results were shown by the hydroabrasive method, which allows achieving a uniform layer depth within 30-60 μm and avoiding surface defects.

The researchers also determined the optimal pressure in the spray gun for applying the aluminum coating — 2.0 atmospheres. This value ensures the most efficient distribution of the protective layer, which ultimately increases the durability of the parts. The developed recommendations have already been tested at "ODK-Perm Engines."

Earlier, www1.ru reported that the first Tu-214 series aircraft in three years received a unique livery in Minsk.
