Россия победила скимминг: новые технологии обеспечили безопасность выпускаемых банковских карт

Chips instead of magnetic stripes significantly increased the level of protection for bank cards

In Yekaterinburg, at the forum "Cybersecurity in Finance," the Director of the Security Department of the National Payment Card System (NSPK), Artem Gutnik, announced a complete victory over skimming in Russia. This type of fraud is associated with bank cards. It was most common among cards with a magnetic stripe, which the country has almost completely abandoned.

Gutnik noted that the success in combating skimming became possible after the introduction of innovative technologies in the payment market. The transition to chip cards significantly reduced the risks associated with data theft. Updating the infrastructure, including ATMs, required significant efforts from banks.

Banks are actively developing anti-fraud systems that analyze customers' payment behavior. One effective method is the "geo-jump" rule. It allows identifying suspicious transactions when card data is used in different countries in a short period. With its help, banks can quickly respond to potential threats and protect customers from fraud.

Thus, thanks to modern technologies and the coordinated work of financial institutions, Russia has taken a significant step towards ensuring the safety of its citizens in the field of payments.
