ISS Communication Quality Improved: ECTS System Successfully Installed

ECTS Replaced the Outdated "Regul-OS"

Cosmonauts have completed the installation of a new unified command and telemetry system (ECTS) on the International Space Station (ISS). This will increase the number and duration of communication sessions with Earth.

The new system can work with both ground stations and through relay satellites. The system has already been tested on Progress MS cargo ships and then installed on Soyuz MS manned ships, where it has proven itself well.
Ivan Vagner, Roscosmos cosmonaut

According to Vagner, the new system provides command-program, telephone, and file information to the board.

Diagnostic information about the system's operation, command receipts, telemetry, telephone, file, and television information are transmitted from the board. The data transfer rate of digital information arrays is higher than that of Regul-OS.

Earlier, Ivan Vagner also reported that the previous "Regul-OS" system interacted with ground receiving stations. The new ECTS uses satellite communications.
