The International Space Station (ISS) will receive an updated control and communication system. Cosmonauts will replace the outdated "Regul-OS" complex with a new unified command and telemetry system (ECTS) operating through relay satellites. This will increase the number and duration of communication sessions, according to TASS special correspondent, Roscosmos cosmonaut Ivan Wagner.
In addition to conducting scientific experiments, the crew performs maintenance and modernization of the station. Replacing "Regul-OS" with ECTS is one of these tasks. The previous system interacted with ground receiving stations. The new development has high bandwidth and uses satellite communications.
The "Regul-OS" system was installed on Earth during the preparation of the "Zarya" module for launch. Last week, Wagner dismantled its components, including antenna-feeder devices. The next step will be the installation and connection of ECTS.
Updating the communication system will allow the ISS crew to maintain a stable connection for a longer period, which is critical for the operation of the station and the conduct of scientific experiments.
Earlierwww1.rureported that the ISS orbit was corrected by more than 3 km before the arrival of "Soyuz MS-27."
