Zhatay Shipyard in Yakutia Launches Construction of First Vessel

Agreement Signed for Creation of Small-Tonnage Ferry for the Vilyuy River

The Zhatay Shipyard in Yakutia has received its first order for the construction of a small-tonnage vessel. The agreement was signed at the end of January between JSC "Zhatay Shipyard" and the Suntarsky Ulus municipal district. The ferry will operate on the Vilyuy River.

The shipyard's director, Vlad Permyakov, stated that the company is starting its main production activities this year. According to him, the agreement opens up new horizons for expanding production.

[This] will allow us to create ferries and pontoon bridges for other uluses of the republic.

The first vessel built at this shipyard will significantly simplify the lives of local residents, as many settlements in the district are located on the opposite bank of the river.

The modernization of the Zhatay Shipyard, founded in the 1940s, began in 2019. The opening of the enterprise will provide the Lena Basin and the Arctic zone, including the Northern Sea Route, with a modern river fleet.

The new shipyard will be able to put into operation up to 10 river and sea vessels annually. By 2036, it is planned to build about 100 river vessels, as well as carry out repair and disposal of watercraft.
