Before the start of the exam period, fraudsters developed a new insidious scheme to deceive Russian students. The attackers pose as employees of the dean's office and even special services.
The scenario of their actions was thought out to the smallest detail. First, the student received a call from a "representative of the dean's office" who asked to urgently register on a new website in order to gain access to the session. Then there was a call from an "employee of the special services" who threatened expulsion due to suspicious money transfers.
Session at the price of 700,000 rubles
Recently, student Sergey became a victim of fraud. It all started with a phone call from a person who introduced himself as an employee of the dean's office. The fraudsters took advantage of Sergey's emotional state before the session and intimidated him with possible expulsion from the university.
After the first call, a second one followed — from alleged representatives of the special services, who reported suspicious income on the student's account. Under pressure from threats of expulsion, Sergey agreed to transfer 700,000 rubles to the courier.
The deception was revealed only after Sergey contacted the university to verify the information.
Information security experts advise:
- Be vigilant and always check information received from the "dean's office" through the official channels of your educational institution.
- Do not follow links and do not register on unfamiliar websites.
- Remember that university staff never require money transfers to be admitted to the session.
- If you receive a suspicious call, immediately report it to the dean's office or the university's security service.
- Do not succumb to threats of expulsion that may come over the phone.
Attackers use the session period to mislead young people under the pretext of "access to exams".
Earlier, Russians were warned that fraudsters are actively distributing the Mamont virus in Telegram, which is disguised as a video. If you open such a file, an application is installed on the phone that steals push notifications, SMS and photos from the gallery.
