Lukashenko plans to discuss the construction of a second nuclear power plant in Belarus with Putin

Belarusian authorities are considering the option of building a new station south of Mogilev

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that he would soon discuss the construction of a second nuclear power plant in the country with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

Lukashenko noted that the location for the new NPP has not yet been chosen, but there are several potential sites. He specified that it is possible to expand the existing station in Ostrovets. The option of building a new station south of Mogilev is also being considered.

The President of Belarus emphasized that, given the development of housing with electric heating and electric transport, the need for electricity in the country is only growing.

The first nuclear power plant in Belarus, built according to the Russian project "AES-2006", is located in the area of the city of Ostrovets. Rosatom General Director Alexei Likhachev previously reported that the Russian side is ready to build a second nuclear power plant in Belarus if necessary.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Russia and Belarus are working on a project for a mobile nuclear power plant.
