The Tu-214 aircraft will not be deeply modernized for Russian airlines that need to update their fleet. It remains a temporary option before the release of the medium-range MS-21 aircraft, said Mikhail Tyaglik, candidate of technical sciences, associate professor of the Department 106 "Aerodynamics, Dynamics and Control of Aircraft" of MAI.
The situation with the Tu-214 is complicated, it is a rather outdated machine from the late 1980s, which does not meet all modern requirements. It is operated by three crew members — two pilots and a flight engineer, who have not been trained in flight schools for a long time.
The expert added that in new airliners this function is performed by a computer, and training such a specialist from scratch costs additional money. For this reason, airlines are not ready to purchase Tu-214 on such terms.
The PS-90 engine, which is installed on the Tu-214, consumes more fuel than new machines, and this is an additional thousands of tons of kerosene over the years of operation, therefore, Russian aircraft designers will focus on the development of the MS-21 as a promising modern aircraft.
Earlier www1.ru reported that in June 2023, the Tu-214 made its first flight after the restoration of airworthiness.
