The TOS-1A "Solntsepyok" heavy flamethrower system has gained a number of tactical and technical advantages compared to the earlier version after modernization by specialists from VNII "Signal" (part of the "High-Precision Systems" holding). This was reported by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
He noted that the updated navigation system automates the processes of calculating geodetic tasks - this increases the accuracy of shooting and reduces the preparation time for it.
The installation of a digital automated control system (ACS) eliminates the need for a lengthy topological binding with the calculation output from the cabin and the use of a compass.
A similar ACS is installed on modern multiple launch rocket systems of the "Tornado" family - "Tornado-S" and "Tornado-G".
It allows machines to operate more autonomously and does not require interaction with machines included in the complex of older versions of "Smerch" or "Grad", respectively.
TOS-1A "Solntsepyok" is a modernized version of TOS-1 "Buratino". The heavy flamethrower system performs combat missions in close combat.
Main characteristics of TOS-1A "Solntsepyok":
- Readiness time for opening fire - 90 seconds
- Number of launch tubes - 24 pcs
- Caliber - 220 mm
- Firing range - from 600 m to 6000 m
- Duration of a full salvo - 6 seconds
Earlier www1.ru reported that a way to transform the "Tornado-G" and "Grad" MLRS into high-precision weapons was revealed.
